Freedom of Information

Background

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 received Royal Assent on 30 November 2000. The Act defines the public authorities that are covered by the Act and so are required to adopt and maintain a publication scheme. Paragraph 7, Part II of Schedule 1 of the Freedom of Information Act defined a local within the meaning of the Local Government Act 1972 as a public authority.

Bramley Parish Council wishes to continue to be open and transparent and make information available to parishioners. The publication scheme and scale of charges may be revised from time to time.

Exemptions

Bramley Parish Council policy is to be as open as possible and supply the information requested. However, there may be some exemptions, which are explained in Part II of The Freedom if Information Act. An example is any information that would fall under the Data Protection Act.

Requests for Information

All requests should be made to the Clerk in writing (includes by electronic means) and must be legible, include name & address of the requestor and the information required. The Parish Council will respond to stating whether it holds the information and advise the fees payable. Requests will be responded to within 20 working days.

All requests to view documents must be made in writing and an appointment will be arranged at a mutually convenient time and place.

The Council reserves the right to withhold the issue of copies until the appropriate fee has been received.

Charges

The Council will set reasonable charges for the information requested to cover photocopying costs, postage, staff time and other expenses.
