John was born in Basingstoke “a very long time ago” (his words). After a career in the Army and later with Arthur Guinness, the brewer, where he worked in Manchester and also in London, he retired to live in Bramley in 1993.  Since his retirement John has interested himself in local affairs, notably the Parish Council of which he is in his fifth year as Chairman. He is also involved with Monk Sherborne and District Horticultural Society of which he was Chairman for six years and is a Trustee of Clift Meadow. In his free time John enjoys travel, particularly to New Zealand where his eldest son and family now live and he is a member of Stratfield Saye Bridge Club.

Allan Douglas
Brantwood, Silchester Road, Bramley RG26 5DQ

Allan originates from the North East of England and came down to work for the Reading Hospitals in the District Works Dept. working as a Project Manager upgrading hospital buildings and services. This followed having been made redundant through the complete closure of Consett Steel Works in 1980. He still works at the Royal Berkshire Hospital as Estates Manager. He met his future wife, in Reading but she now works at the North Hants Hospital. They have a son who is very active in sport and he trains and swims for Reading Swimming Club and also plays golf at Sherfield Oaks.

Allan has served 13 years as a Special Constable with Hampshire Constabulary based out of Basingstoke Station but regrettably had to give up doing this due to a back problem. He has now lived in the village for almost 19 years and would like to contribute to helping the village through being a Parish  Councillor.

Jane Payne

Although her children have both attended local schools it is only now that she has the opportunity to help make Bramley the best it can be!

A daily walker, with her Jack Russell 'Wilf',  Jane is taking on the Rights of Way (footpaths), public seats and bus shelters, has joined the planning team and is the Councils’ representative at the Basingstoke & District Parish & Town Councils Association.
